"Rank has it's privileges" - NOT!

Field grades officers (Maj and above) are a bit rare in these parts, so I was "fortunate" enough to get a "nicer" room in an actual building where they house the "permanent party" of the base. The room is 6 feet wide and 12 feet long with two sets of bunks. They four of us sharing it each have 4 bags of gear plus huge carry-ons. Needless to say, there is absolutely no room to move in the room. It is warm though (the high today was 16 degrees at Manas AB Kyrgyzstan). My less fortunate traveling companions (Lt Col Lem Myers and Maj Brian Maue) ended up in the big open bay quarters with 400 of their closest friends. They have it better I think because they have some room to breathe and store their crap. They think I have it better because I have a shower and bathroom right across the hall. They have to go out in the cold to the building next door to shower and shit (or vice versa)! While I was napping this afternoon in my room, I had to put up with my bunkmate that was having "stomach and digestive issues." Memories of the Dry Heave Tortugas come to mind ...

Brent -- Rank does indeed have it's privileges. Take it from a Marine Corps enlisted veteran of the Vietnam War. I very much enjoyed reading your blogs and will continue to read them. God Blees and watch over you while you are there and i want you to know that you are appreciated. As they say in the Marine Corps, Semper Fi. Jim Shipp
